Foodie Friends - Whither Wales

The oldest Cardiff food blog that we've found, "Whither Wales", by self-confessed raconteur and soon to be radio star, Dan. But do you know of an older blog?

When did you begin blogging and why?
I've been blogging (mostly about rugby) since1999 though I probably didn't start blogging about food until 2003/4. Gwlad Rugby does have its own food section called "Bon Viveur", which in spite of its irreverent tone is a very useful reference for Welsh food issues.

What is the essence of your blog?
It's a blog with the loose tagline of "The Past, Present and Future of Wales", but a lot of it seems to revolve around food because that's one of my passions - especially Welsh food, produce and cooking

Why do you enjoy blogging?
To me blogging (and writing in general) is exercise for the brain. Rather like going for a jog or going to the gym!

What are some of your favourite food things around Cardiff?
I like Delis like Wally's and Bant a la Cart. We have some decent restaurants and a few notable newcomers like Jamie's and Carluccio's. However you need to go out of Cardiff for truly spectacular cooking: The Hardwick, Foxhunter, Felin Fach Griffin, Crown at Whitebrook, Bell at Skenfrith and Walnut Tree near Abergavenny and Monmouth, and places like Y Polyn and The Harbourmaster in the West.

Dan is featuring on this weekend's edition of
Wales on the Menu for BBC Radio Wales - tune in!
