Mini Bites: September
Hello again :) Hope you all enjoyed the 5th Birthday guest posts as much as I did - was really fun seeing people's different experiences of food and let go of the reins for a bit. We're now hurtling towards autumn at an alarming rate, with loads of amazing stuff planned this season.
A Festive Feast
With the daddy of all food festivals, Abergavenny, happening in a few weeks, why not whet your appetite with something a little closer to home. St Fagan's Natural History Museum is holding a free food festival next weekend (10th - 11th September) promises family-friendly fun, demonstrations and some great Welsh produce and food stalls including my favourite, Falafel Wales.
Running from 10am to 5pm both days, it's a great excuse to visit a fantastic venue. Don't forget to visit the Gwalia Store and bakery whilst you're there!
Speaking of Abergavenny, this year's festival kicks off on 17th September and many ticketed events are already sold out. Fear not as there is always plenty of fun to be had with a 5 venue stroller ticket, giving you access to The Castle, Market Hall, Brewery Yard, Lion's Place and The Priory. Never been, check out my piece for Visit Wales from last year.
A Blogger in the Garden
My little garden is starting to slow down after the excitement of our house-move. We've eaten the last of the peas and broad beans, demolished our crop of new potatoes and remain amazed at the way the herbs have flourished. Also amazing us are our late ripening tomatoes. Who'd have thought after the washout of the summer that they are still alive and actually blushing red. Even more amazing are our tiny alpine strawberry plants which have just started fruiting. Whether this will come to anything remains to be seen.
Awards Season
As I mentioned in my July post, I was lucky enough to judge at the True Taste Wales finals. We had some fantastic entries and I'm delighted to say the finalists have now been announced. You can find the full list on fellow judge Kacie's blog. The awards ceremony takes place next month and I'll be making the trip to Llandudno to be there for the evening.
Equally exciting is the Wales Blog Awards announcing their longlist. For the second year running this very blog has made an appearance so a big thank you to everyone who nominated me. There are some fantastic blogs in the Food & Drink category so please take time out to have a read and support your local writers. The shortlist will be announced soon so we can but wait and see who makes the final cut.
