Mini Bites: May

May is here and spring has officially sprung (though you'd be forgiven for thinking it'd sprung a leak given the recent deluge of rain!).  April was a busy month on the blog with eight new posts and the feedback I've had in the comments, on Twitter and from the blog stats have been amazing - thank you all!  Hopefully I can keep this momentum going for the rest of the year and I hope you stay along for the ride.

Glamourpuss

Last month I was lucky enough to celebrate Llanerch Vineyard Cookery School's 1st birthday with the wonderful Angela Gray. She spoke very passionately on the night about how lucky she was to have such a wonderful team around her and Llanerch certainly seems like a fantastic place.

Fancy sampling a little bit of the Vineyard magic? Join them this Sunday (May 6th) from 3pm for their Glam Camping Festival. Entry and parking are free and you can enjoy (amongst other things) live music, wine tasting and some delicious food before the night culminates in a firework show at 9.45pm. There will also be kids activities and Welsh Rugby star Adam Jones will be signing autographs. Fancy staying the night, you can camp for £20 if you take your own tent or for £100 you can hire a Glam Camping Bell Tent - perfect for those who spent too long in the champagne tent! All money raised will go to St David's Hospice Charity.

Wurst for Wear

What are sunny days for if not to kick back and relax with a beer and a barbecue?  Well it's not exactly barbecue weather so lets just stick with the beer and head to Chapter Arts Centre's MaiBock Beer Festival (May 10th - 12th).  Sample one of their range of over 30 German beers, tuck into a hot dog with curry ketchup and just enjoy.

Sweet Charity

Beer not your thing?  Why not support The Great Cardiff Cake Off and help raise money for Ty Hafan.  Bakers are invited to enter their creations in the following categories: Victoria sponge, Chocolate Cake, Fruit Cake, Cupcakes, Pastries, International Cake and Scones.  For young bakers there are special categories for the under and over 10s.  The winning recipes will be collected into a book, along with some special local recipes, which will be sold to raise more funds for the charity.  There will also be plenty of opportunity to sample the sweet treats so head on down to Tiger Tiger on May 19th (tickets can be bought online).

Coming up...

Some exciting things coming up in the next few months so an early heads up.  Firstly Cardiff's online community have been invited to come together and celebrate The Big Lunch on June 3rd - find out more about how to get involved here.

Secondly, my very persuasive friend Deri (aka The Ethical Chef) has somehow talked me into being a guest chef at his Riverside Market stall one Sunday.  Dates have yet to be confirmed but this will be your chance to come along, say "hi" and perhaps try some of my food. I'll keep you updated so watch this space!
