Putting my blog where your mouth is - Volunteering with Feed Cardiff

Next Saturday (October 9th 2010), I'll be helping out at the Feed Cardiff project.

Not heard of it?  You can find their blog here

The premise is simple - using food that is perfectably usable, but is otherwise thrown away, the Cardiff Food Alliance, together with Cardiff Transition Project and Cardiff Friends of the Earth, will feed 500 people a hot, freshly cooked, vegan and, most importantly, FREE meal!

Yesterday it was featured in The Guardian and hopefully more coverage of the event will follow.

I'll be helping out at the Salvation Army in Grangetown from 8am and from 11am to 3pm will be chapati assistant. Don't think I'll get to play with a Tandoor oven though.

So for all those people who have ever said that they'd like to taste my food, now's your chance!  Head down to Working Street this Saturday and get some food down you

Hi Nikki - This is such a worthwhile event. I never understood how the big supermarkets could throw out all of that food at the end of the trading day rather than pass it on to those in genuine need. It's obscene really isn't it. Great to hear, therefore, that some of it is now getting diverted into such a great event. Hope it all goes to plan and that you all have a lot of fun taking part - love to hear how the day goes, will you post about it after? Hope so..

Great initiative! I'm looking forward to hearing how this went.

I'm really hoping that food waste can be cut down with perhaps a re-think of sell-by / use-by dates for starters?
