Come Dine with Tweeps: Round 1
Take four Twitter friends, add one mad idea to stage a "Come Dine with Me" style competition, simmer slowly for a few months until they get impatient and set a date, serve with plenty of wine and gossiping.
And so it was that I found myself in Pontcanna on Tuesday, clutching a bottle of wine and going to the first of our dinners.
The other three diners are my Twitter pals Mark, Bec and Abby, who was our host for the evening.
As this was our first round, we were all a little apprehensive. I'd luckily met everyone offline already but for the others this was their first offline meeting. Would the group gel as well as we do online? What would we talk about? More importantly, could Abby cook?!
We needn't have worried as her menu was executed perfectly:
Starter: Oven Baked Wild Mushroom Risotto
Main: Roast Pork Loin with Apple and Rosemary in a Cider and Creme Fraiche sauce served with Braised Red Cabbage, Cider-glazed Carrots and Roast Potatoes
Pudding: Custardy Pumpkin Pie
So what about the rest?
Conversation: weird work colleagues, the budget and how everyone can be a little bit Tory, gay pets, Abby's musical tastes and a whole heap of gossiping about Twitter
Food Highlights: creamy risotto, cider sauce, pumpkin pie
Other Highlights: The sudden appearence of Abby's exercise ball which had rolled off the top of her wardrobe. In the darkness we thought it was some kind of animal!
The evening was declared a success and next month it's my turn to host. I'm already working on my menu and hopefully will wow everyone with some winter treats.
If you're on Twitter then you can follow our feed and keep up with our foodie witterings and plans.
Stay tuned for my menu!
