Sweet Charity

Is there any better way to end the day than sipping champagne and eating cake?

Yes, sipping champagne, eating cake AND donating to charity!

Park Plaza hotel have teamed up with Breast Cancer Care Cymru to launch a special pink afternoon tea throughout October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Now I'm not much of a girly girl and certainly not into pink but even I had to admit that the tea was very cute.

The sandwiches (the usual egg, salmon, cucumber and ham) were just large enough to sate the appetite before descending into the sweet things.

My favourite element was the champagne and strawberry jelly, topped with pink cotton candy and a hidden surprise of popping candy.  This managed to be sweet without being sickly and the candyfloss and popping candy added an element of fun.  The pink marshmallow with coconut lollypop was equally cute.

Now I'm not a huge fan of cupcakes but this sweet little number managed to combine style and substance, despite being unapologetically and rather stereotypically "girly" with its shoe and handbag decorations.

The platter is served with a glass of Veuve Clicquot Rose Champagne and a choice of either breakfast, earl grey or green tea.  At £25 it is the same price as Park Plaza's other afternoon tea but with 8% of the cost being donated to the charity.

This would be a perfect end to a shopping day, a pre-theatre treat  or a civilised addition to a hen party.  Just make sure you like pink!

My visit was by invitation of Park Plaza and the meal was complimentary. However I have since made a donation to Breast Cancer Cymru and would ask my readers to do the same.
